Goucher Volleyball Unveils 2019 Slate

BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College has announced the women's volleyball 2019 schedule. The 26-match slate is highlighted by 13 home matches including two home tri-matches.

The Gophers will open the season against Notre Dame University of Maryland on August 30. It will be the second-straight season that Goucher will open the season at home against a nearby opponent after starting 2018 in Decker Sports & Recreation Center against Johns Hopkins.

Penn State Brandywine joins the schedule for the first when it visits on August 31. The team will then conclude a three-game homestand with Shenandoah on September 4 for the sixth-straight meeting between the two programs.

Goucher hits the road for the first time in 2019 for a tri-match at Cedar Crest on September 7. It will be the first meeting between the two program since the 2015 season.

The squad returns home to welcome McDaniel to town on Sept. 12. It will be the 15th-straight season the two teams will square off on the volleyball courts.

After the match against McDaniel, the team heads out for a four-game homestand starting with a tri-match at Wesley. The Gophers are 2-0 against Wesley since it returned to the slate in 2017. The squad will wrap up its road trip at Washington (Md.) on September 18 and at Ursinsus on September 21. Ursinus returns to the schedule for the first time since 2005.

After facing Ursinus for the first time in 15 years, Goucher returns to the Decker Sports & Recreation Center to renew its series with Cairn for the first time since 2005 on September 24.

The team will hit the road to Gwynedd Mercy for second meeting since 2017 and a match won by the Baltimore-based program on September 27.

The next day Goucher will host a tri-match with Delaware Valley and Marywood on September 28. The Gophers defeated Delaware Valley last year while the team will be facing Marywood for the first time since the 2016 campaign. Bryn Athyn concludes a three-game homestand with a the first matchup between the two teams since 2012 on October 1.

Landmark Conference play begins at Elizabethtown with contests against Susquehanna and Moravian on October 5. Goucher will have its 2019 conference home debut against Juniata on October 9.

The team will step outside of conference play for five of the next six matches starting at St. Mary's (Md.) on October 12 for the fourth meeting in the last three seasons. 

Alvernia comes to town on October 19 after the Gophers won in five sets last year on the road.

After the home match against Alvernia, the team hits the road for three-straight matches at Catholic (October 23) in conference play and then down I-81 to face Eastern Mennonite (October 25) and Bridgewater (Va.) (October 26). It will be the second-straight season Goucher will face the two teams from the Old Dominion.

The Gophers return home for its final three games, hosting Gallaudet (October 30) and Elizabethtown and Scranton in a tri-match on November 2.

Goucher looks to finish as one of the Top-4 teams in the standings to advance to the Landmark Conference postseason for the first time since the 2014 season. The semifinals are on November 6 and the championship match will take place on November 9.
