Women's Volleyball Honored With USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for Second Straight Year
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's volleyball team has been honored with the 2022 United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, it was announced on Monday, July 18. It marks the second straight year the Gophers have been honored. Over 1,200 across collegiate, high school and beach volleyball earned the honor, including 212 NCAA Division III women's programs.
"As a program this is an amazing accomplishment earning the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the second year in a row. With this being their first season back on the court since COVID started, they have certainly taken advantage and thrived in every situation thrown their way," said Goucher women's volleyball head coach Maggie Catherina. "I am so proud of what they have achieved both on and off the court, and cannot wait to see what the future has in store for this team!"
The Gophers boasted a team GPA of 3.46 to earn the honor for the third time in program history, as the 2011 team also earned the honor.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
