TOWSON, MD — Both teams had three runners among the
top six finishers in today's dual meet, so it was the performance
of the next four Goucher runners that ultimately allowed the
Gophers to defeat York, 25-34.
Goucher's Fraley Coles (The Plains, VA/Highland
School) crossed the finish line in first place, but was
followed by Stephanie Holt and Jessica Caggiano, both from York.
Coles' winning time for the 6,000-meter race was 25:39.28, and she
has now placed first in this meet three years in a row. Holt was
clocked at 26:19.37.
Rachel Boss (Keene, NH/Keene) and Britt
Honbarrier (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) captured fourth and
fifth place with times of 27:03.71 and 27:08.83, respectively.
York's Kristen Hursey placed sixth, but before any of her teammates
completed the race, four Goucher runners crossed the finish line to
seal the outcome. The final two runners to score for the victorious
Gophers were Becky Foner (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape
Elizabeth) in seventh place and Marisa Long
(Hampton Bays, NY/Sachem), while Katie Shaw
(Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) and Kate Young
(Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) were displacers for Goucher.
