Coles, Foner Lead Way for Gophers

HUNT VALLEY, Md. - Goucher placed two runners among the top 25 finishers at today's Baltimore Metro Meet conducted at Oregon Ridge State Park.

Laura Paulson from Johns Hopkins was the individual champion as she completed the 5,000-meter race in 18:27 for an 11-second victory over Katie Ogden from Towson.  The first runner to cross the finish line that didn't represent either Johns Hopkins or Towson was Goucher's J. Fraley Coles (The Plains, VA/Highland School), who finished 14th with a time of 20:18.

Also cracking the top 25 from Goucher was Becky Foner (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) in 24th place (21:00).

Goucher's next three finishers were Tamara Fillipovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Mercersburg Academy) in 42nd place with a time of 22:37,  Kate Young (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) in 45th (22:46) and Katie Shaw (Albuquerque, NM/Bosque School) in 47th (23:07).

There were a total of 75 runners.

In the final team scoring, Towson was first with 27 points and Johns Hopkins second with 31. Morgan St. (113 points) and McDaniel (122) also finished ahead of Goucher, which captured fifth place ahead of Villa Julie (162) and Hood (174).
