Goucher Takes Third Place Behind Catholic, Juniata
WASHINGTON, D.C. — With freshman Hadley Couraud (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) crossing the finish line in fifth place and senior Katie Shaw (Albuquerque, N.M./Bosque School) just four spots back in ninth place, Goucher was able to hang on to third place at today's Catholic Invitational.
Two Landmark Conference schools finished ahead of Goucher in the team scoring: Catholic in first place with 36 points and Juniata in second with 42 points. The Gophers earned a team score of 82 points, 19 more than Drew, the fourth Landmark member that took part in today's 6,000-meter race conducted on the campus of the U.S. Armed Forces Retirement Home.
This is the same course that will be used later this month for the 2009 Landmark Conference Championships.
The individual champion was Juniata's Laura Rupprecht, who completed her run in 25:37.65.
A second Juniata runner and two from Catholic posted faster time's than Couraud's 26:28.28. Shaw was clocked at 27:05.91.
Following Shaw, Goucher's next three runners were junior Hannah Southworth (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) in 21st place (28:45.12), senior Kate Young (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) in 26th (29:56.44) and Chiara Collette (Naples, Fla./Jakarta International School) in 34th (31:35.79).
