Couraud Places 44th Overall, Ninth Among Freshmen

Gophers Finish with 920 Points for 32nd Place in Team Scoring
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Only eight freshmen crossed the finish line
ahead of Goucher's Hadley Couraud (East Lansing, Mich./East
Lansing) today at the NCAA Division III Mid-East
Regional.
Couraud finished 44th overall in the field of 311 runners as she
completed the 6,000-meter race in 23:31.2, which is the
sixth-fastest time for that distance in the history of Goucher's
women's cross country program.
In addition, no freshman in program history has ever placed as
high at a regional meet as Couraud did today. Previously, the best
finish by a freshman was the 48th-place effort by Fraley Coles in
2004.
After Couruad, the next three runners representing Goucher to
finish were senior Katie Shaw (Albuquerque, N.M./Bosque
School) in 164th place with a time of 25:23.4, junior
Hannah Southworth (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) in
212th (26:29.1) and freshman Haley Augustson (Athens,
W.Va./PikeView) in 254th (27:42.3).
Jenn Cronin from Lebanon Valley beat out Haverford's Emily Lipman and Gettysburg's Kerrin Epstein for first place. Cronin's winning time of 21:39.2 gave her a :05.2 margin of victory over Lipman and Epstein was just :01 further behind in third place.
Goucher placed 32nd in the team scoring with a score of 920 points. The top three teams were Johns Hopkins with 109 points, Dickinson (113 points) and Haverford (146).
