Goucher Misses Out on Third Place at Metro by One Point

Couraud Turns In Sixth-Fastest 5K Time in Program History
COCKEYSVILLE, Md. — Goucher finished in fourth place — only one point in back of McDaniel — today at the Baltimore Metro Meet, which was conducted at Oregon Ridge Park.
The first of head coach John Caslin's runners to cross the finish line was sophomore Hadley Couraud (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing). She completed the race in 14th place overall and her time of 19:52.44 was not only the second-fastest time ever by a Goucher female at Oregon Ridge, but also the sixth fastest time for a 5,000-meter race in the history of the school's women's cross country program.
Three first-year runners for the Gophers cracked the top 40 starting, with Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) in 34th place. She posted a time of 21:44.46. Shea Staab (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Kathryn Walker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) placed 34th and 36th, respectively, in the field of 81 runners. Staab's time was 22:00.78 and Walker's was 22:06.86.
The fifth runner who figured in Goucher's team score of 98 points was senior Hannah Southworth (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) in 52nd place (23:31.82).
In the team scoring, Johns Hopkins took first place with 23 points, followed by Towson in second with 32 points and McDaniel in third with 97. Following Goucher were: Morgan St. (167 points) in fifth, Coppin St. (178) and Essex (178) tied for sixth, and Stevenson (216) in eighth.
