Myette Makes Debut, Grabs Second at Achtzehn Classic

Gophers Finish Three Points Out of Third Place

MT. WOLF, Pa. — Goucher's Kelsey Myette (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) beat 77 runners across the finish line today at the Coach Achtzehn Classic. And only one finished ahead of her.

In the first competitive race of her collegiate career, Myette covered the 5,000-meter distance in 19:36.06. That is the third-fastest 5K time in the history of Goucher's women's cross country program and left her less than 28 seconds behind the individual champion, Lindsay Wilson from McDaniel.

Wilson's winning time was 19:08.99.

In freshman Taylor Burr (Addison, Maine/Maranacook Community), the Gophers had a second runner among the top 10 finishers. She completed the race in 20:42.17, good for 10th place. After Burr, Goucher's next two runners were also freshmen: Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) in 15th place (20:59.40) and Kathryn Walker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) in 29th place (21:56.47).

The fifth runner to figure in Goucher's team score of 77 points was senior Hannah Southworth (Durham, N.H./Oyster River), who placed 32nd (22:30.32).

Franklin & Marshall captured the team title with 40 points and McDaniel was second with 65. York (74 points) finished third in the team scoring, just three points ahead of Goucher.
