Gophers Accumulate 91 Points, Place Third in Team Scoring
WESTMINSTER, Md. — Goucher finished in third place — behind only one other Division III program — and one of its first-year runners cracked the top 10 at today's Baltimore Metro Meet.
The first two Goucher runners to cross the finish line were freshmen: Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) completed the 5,000-meter race in 20:01.36, good for ninth place overall, and Gwendolyn Moiles (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) was clocked at 21:25.80, which put her in the 27th position.
Currier is the first female runner from Goucher to place among the top 10 finishers at this event since Margo Becker was sixth overall in 2004.
Sophomore Kathryn Walker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) came in 35th place (21:44.84) and was followed by sophomores Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) and Shea Staab (Fallston, Md./Fallston) in the 43rd and 47th spots, respectively. Zidanic was timed at 22:17.36 and Staab at 22:34.31.
Towson, the only Division I program to field a team, scored 29 points and edged Johns Hopkins for the team title by a single point. The Gophers were third with 91 points, followed by McDaniel (113 points) in fourth, Hood (144) in fifth and Stevenson (161) in sixth.
