Currier Earns All-Freshmen Designation by Placing 53rd Overall
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Goucher achieved its highest finish ever at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship by finishing in a tie for 16th place today.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Goucher achieved its highest finish ever at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship by finishing in a tie for 16th place today.
And allthough she placed 53rd overall in the 6,000-meter race, Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) of the Gophers was among the first seven first-year runners to cross the finish line, earning her a spot on the Mideast Region's All-Freshmen Team.
Dickinson's Taylor Ludman was the individual champion as she crossed the finish line in 22:33, one second ahead of Sheena Crawley from Franklin & Marshall.
The first freshman to come in was Hannah Eckstein from Johns Hopkins in fifth place (22:43).
Currier was clocked at 24:36, which is the 21st fastest time for a race of this distance in the history of Goucher's women's cross country program.
The next two Goucher runners to finish after Currier were sophomores Taylor Burr (Addison, Maine/Maranacook Community) and Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York). Burr posted a time of 24:50, good fpr 71st place; Zidanic's time of 24:54 put her in 74th place in the field of 335 runners.
Junior Hadley Couraud (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) and freshman Gwendolyn Moiles (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) were separated by only three seconds at the conclusion of the race. Couruad placed 157th with her time of 26:17 and Moiles was six spots back in 163rd place (26:20).
With a team score of 510 points, Goucher was tied with DeSales for 16th place in the final team standings. Forty-seven teams had a sufficient number of runners to be awarded a team score.
The previous best finish for Goucher at this event was 19th place in 1994.
