GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Only one person in the history of Goucher's women's cross country program ever completed a 6,000-meter race in a faster time than sophomore Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) posted today on the way to a fifth-place finish at the Gettysburg Invitational.
Currier crossed the finish line in 22:37, which represents the fastest time for any female runner in the Landmark Conference in a 6K this year. The only runners who came in ahead of her in the race were Sophia Stone from Mary Baldwin, who was clocked at 21:48, unattached runner Reynah Spence (22:19), Marina Orrson from Misericordia (22:23) and Christine Esposito from Gettysburg (22:31).
The school record, established by Fraley Coles back in 2007 at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional, is 22:32.
Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) and Sarah Pardus (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) were the second and third Goucher runners to finish today's race. Zidanic turned in a time of 24:13, good for 52nd place; Pardus followed in 118th place (25:27).
Also figuring in the team score the Gophers earned were Zoe Malkin (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) and Christine Cherry (Laurel, Md./Meade), who placed 156th and 176th overall, respectively. Malkin finished in 26:07 and Cherry in 26:26.
There were a total of 394 runners in the race.
Based on the performances of their top five runners, the Gophers scored 395 points to finish in 16th place in a field of 36 teams. Immediately ahead of Goucher in the team scoring was Susquehanna, another Landmark Conference school, in 15th place with 385 points.
