Currier, Zidanic Cross Finish Line Back-to-Back at Regionals
NEWVILLE, Pa. — Goucher finished in 24th place at the NCAA Division III Mideast Region Championship today, ahead of two teams that fared better than the Gophers just two weeks ago at the Landmark Conference Championships.
Gophers Place 24th Overall, Ahead of Crusaders, Royals
NEWVILLE, Pa. — Goucher finished in 24th place out of 49 teams at the NCAA Division III Mideast Region Championship today, ahead of two teams that fared better than the Gophers just two weeks ago at the Landmark Conference Championships.
The team title was won by Johns Hopkins with a score of 63 points. Haverford took second place in the team scoring with 79 points.
Juniata was the highest-placing Landmark Conference team as the Eagles wound up in 18th place with 505 points, three spots ahead of Moravian in 21st place (604 points). By accumulating 654 points, the Gophers finished in front of Susquehanna (666) in 26th place and Scranton (707) in 27th place.
At the Landmark meet on October 27, the Royals (fourth place) and Crusaders (fifth) were both ahead of head coach John Caslin's Gophers, who placed sixth overall, in the final team scoring.
Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) and Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) were Goucher's top performers today as they crossed the finish line back-to-back in 58th and 59th place, respectively. Currier completed the 6,000-meter race in 24:23.3; Zidanic was clocked at 24:23.5.
Sarah Pardus (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) was the third runner for Goucher to finish today's race as she posted a time of 25:55.6, good for 150th place in the field of 346 competitors. Christine Cherry (Laurel, Md./Meade) followed in 195th place (26:41.5) and Zoe Malkin (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) came in 206th (26:49.2).
The individual champion was Hannah Oneda from Johns Hopkins, who took 21:34.7 to cover the 6,000 meters.
