Currier Defends Title, Helps Gophers Procure Crown
TOWSON, Md. — Not only did Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) defend her title, but her first-place performance helped Goucher achieve a perfect score today at the Goucher Cross Country Classic.
TOWSON, Md. — Not only did Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) defend her title, but her first-place performance helped Goucher achieve a perfect score today at the Goucher Cross Country Classic.
Currier's winning time in today's 6,000-meter race was 24:09.1. Her closest pursuer was teammate June Chiango (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area), who completed the race in 25:06.2. With Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York), Ellie Ginsberg (Ocean Twp., N.J./Ocean Twp.) and Kathryn Walker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) folliwng in third through fifth place, respecitvely, the Gophers were awarded a team score of 15 points.
Zidanic crossed the finish line in 26:13.8; Ginsberg and Walke were clocked at 26:14.8 and 27:27.1, respectively.
The next four runners to come in after Walker were also from Goucher: Camille Jorgensen (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) in sixth place (27:27.8), Zoe Malkin (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) in seventh (28:01.3), Shea Staab (Fallston, Md./Fallston) in eighth (28:32.5) and Christine Cherry (Laurel, Md./Meade) in ninth (28:40.1).
The first of the six Goucher alumnae who entered the race to finish was Marisa (Long) Gossweiller, Class of 2007, in 10th place (29:31.2).
Currier was also the first runner to cross the finish line in the 2012 Goucher Cross Country Classic. She completed last year's race in 23:35.2.
