Warriors Defeat Gophers, Despite Late Push in Fourth Quarter
WILLIAMSPORT, PA- The Goucher College Gophers (6-6; 2-2 conference) suffered a close loss to the Lycoming College Warriors (8-4; 2-2 conference) on Wednesday night. The Warriors beat the Gophers, 2-1.
Goucher got their offense rolling at the 10:48 mark with a shot coming from Laureen Otieno. Lycoming followed that shot up with their first shot of the game three minutes later. Just five seconds later, Lycoming took another shot.
Lycoming opened up the second quarter with a shot coming less than two minutes in. At the 18:07 mark, Lycoming scored their first goal of the game. Goucher ended the quarter with two shots coming in nine seconds apart. At the end of the first half, Lycoming took one more shot than the Gophers (4-3). Katie Bloom recorded two saves.
Just over a minute into the second half, Baylee Klose took her first shot of the game. Three minutes later, Vivian Onunga added another shot for the Gophers. Lycoming countered back with two shots ten seconds apart. K. Bloom added another save at the 40:11 mark from a shot by the Warriors. Seven seconds later, Lycoming scored their second goal of the game. Goucher rallied back by taking three shots in a three minute time span.
Lycoming opened up on the offensive attack by taking a shot a minute and a half into the fourth quarter. Otieno added two more shots for the Gophers. Onunga scored the lone goal for the Gophers, assisted by Charlotte Bloom (48:15). The Warriors added another shot at the 54:17 mark. Goucher followed that shot up by taking their last shot of the game 13 seconds later. Lycoming ended the game by taking three more shots. In the second half, The Warriors shot ten shots compared to the Gophers nine. K. Bloom added six saves versus Lycoming's seven.
Lycoming outshot the Gophers, 14-12. K. Bloom recorded eight saves versus Lycoming's nine. Lycoming took ten penalty corners versus Goucher's three. Otieno led the Gophers in shot attempts with three.
The Gophers return to action on Saturday, October 18th at 1pm against Wilkes. The Gophers will be celebrating the seniors and hosting their pink game.
