Gophers Offense Pushes Them to Victory in Final Home Game of the Season
BALTIMORE, MD- The Goucher College Gophers (9-7, 4-3 conference) defeated the Moravian University Greyhounds (5-11; 1-6 conference) on Wednesday night. The Gophers beat the Greyhounds 2-1.
Laureen Otieno took the first shot of the game within the first two minutes of the game. Moravian took their first shot of the game one minute after Otieno's shot. Charlotte Bloom added to the Gophers offense with her first shot coming in at the 5:39 mark. Otieno took the final shot of the quarter with under a minute to go.
Moravian and Goucher started the second quarter going back and forth. Otieno took her third shot of the game with three minutes to go in the second quarter. Less than a minute later, Ateka Owino took her first shot of the game. Vivian Onunga followed up Owino's shot 15 seconds later. With seven seconds left in the half, the Greyhounds earned a penalty shot. Moravian fired one right past Katie Bloom to score the first goal of the game. To end the half, Goucher took six shots compared to Moravian's two. K. Bloom recorded one save compared to Moravian's two.
To open the second half, junior, Angelena Holmes took a shot for the Gopher offense in the first minute. She followed up her own shot with another one 13 seconds later. Holmes' shot ricocheted off Moravian and Otieno found the ball and shot one right past the Greyhounds. Otieno's goal tied the Gophers and Greyhounds, 1-1. Moravian took a shot at the 31:37 mark. Owino added another shot for the Gophers (33:52). In the last five minutes of the quarter, C. Bloom took a shot on goal. Otieno racked up another shot for the Gophers (40:41). Ava Barnes found teammate, Owino for the Gophers second goal of the night (40:41).
Goucher started the fourth quarter strong. Otieno took a shot one minute into the fourth quarter. Within the next three minutes, Goucher took four shots. Moravian's last shot of the game came at the 55:45 mark. Goucher took the last shot of the game with 1:30 left in the game. Goucher took 13 shots versus Moravian's two. The Greyhounds tallied eight saves compared to K. Bloom's two.
The Gophers outshot the Greyhounds, 19-4. Otieno led the Gophers with seven shots. K. Bloom recorded three saves and 60 minutes in goal. Goucher took nine penalty corners versus Moravian's six.
The Gophers travel to Elizabeth Town this Saturday, October 25th. The Gophers have two game remainig of the regular season.
