Gophers Drop Road Contest Against Blue Jays
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA — The Goucher College Gophers (4–14 overall, 1–10 conference) fell to the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (13–6 overall, 6–6 conference), 81–65, despite a strong offensive showing in the first half.
Darnell Morris Jr. opened the scoring with a three-pointer for the Gophers, but the Blue Jays responded quickly with back-to-back threes to take an early edge. A three from Jadyss Fifer tied the game at eight, sparking an 8–2 Goucher run that helped build momentum midway through the half. As the teams continued to trade baskets, Liech Kong took over offensively, scoring seven unanswered points to give the Gophers a 14-point lead with just over two minutes remaining. Goucher carried an 11-point advantage into halftime.
Both teams came out of the break connecting from beyond the arc, but Elizabethtown soon shifted the momentum. A 7–0 Blue Jays run cut the deficit to two, and free throws tied the game at 39 five minutes into the second half. Elizabethtown followed with a 9–0 run to take a 48–39 lead. Although the Gophers stayed competitive—highlighted by an and-one layup from Kong that pulled them within seven—the Blue Jays' sustained offensive push down the stretch sealed the win.
Kong led the Gophers with 23 points, going 8-9 from the floor and 3-4 from three. Chima Egeonu led the Gophers with nine rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore Brian Griffin led the team with three assists in the contest.
The Gophers led the Blue Jays in field goal and three point percentage. Goucher went 46.9% from the field and 40.9% from beyond the arc. The Blue Jays shot 41.5% from the floor and 26.3% from three. Elizabethtown led Goucher at the charity stripe shooting 17-29 compared to the Gophers 10-13.
