Four Gophers Finish in Double Digits Against Rangers
BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers (4-16 overall, 1-12 conference) hosted the Rangers of Drew University (16-5 overall, 10-4 conference) on Saturday afternoon. Despite a competitive first half, Goucher dropped the contest, 99-69.
The Rangers opened the game by scoring the first five points, giving them an early advantage. The Gophers fired back, going on a 10-2 scoring run, highlighted by three from Darnell Morris Jr. and Jadyss Fifer (14:26). The Rangers countered the run by scoring seven points in just over a minute. As the teams continued to exchange baskets, the Rangers kept a slight lead over the Gophers. Free throws from Liech Kong brought the Gophers within two points (7:39), followed by a layup from Fifer, which gave the Gophers a one-point lead with just under five minutes remaining in the half. Drew closed out the half by going on a 16-10 run, giving them the 44-39 advantage going into the second half.
Drew opened the second half with a basket 10 seconds in. The Rangers continued their offensive momentum by scoring four straight threes (14:39) before a bucket from Fifer stopped the Rangers' run. Over the next seven minutes, Drew went on a 23-10 run that was capped by a Fifer bucket. The teams continued to trade baskets when Jack Murdaugh knocked down a shot from deep (2:27). Despite late points from the Gopher bench, the Rangers held steady win 99-69.
Kong led the team in the contest, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Fifer followed in scoring with 13 points and six rebounds. Morris Jr. and Murdaugh finished with double-digit performances, scoring 12 and 10 each.
The Rangers led the Gophers statistically, shooting 53.3% from the floor, going 12-37 from three, and shot 71.4% from the free throw line. While the Gophers went 43.4% from the field, shot 5-22 from deep, and went 18-33 from the charity stripe.
The Gophers are back in action on the road at Moravian on Wednesday, February 11th at 7pm. They return home on Saturday, February 14th for a 2pm tip-off at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
