Egeonu Earns Double-Double on the Road
BETHLEHEM, PA - The Goucher College Gophers (4-17 overall, 1-13 conference) fell in a close contest to the Greyhounds of Moravian University (14-8 overall, 8-7 conference). Despite the tight contest at half, the Gophers dropped the game, 84-73.
The Gophers came out strong, scoring the first four points of the contest. The greyhounds countered instantly by knocking down a 3-pointer. Buckets from both teams tied them at six apiece (17:02). After four minutes of trading buckets, Jack Murdaugh tied the game with 16 points each. Back-to-back buckets from Jadyss Fifer gave the Gophers a four-point advantage with ten minutes remaining in the half. Moravian responded with a 3-pointer to bring them within one. A basket from both teams tied them at 25 (9:18). Avree Harris ended a three-minute stalemate with a basket to give the Gophers a two-point advantage. After trading baskets for the last five minutes, Moravian led the Gophers 42-40.
Moravian started the second half, knocking down back-to-back threes to give them an eight-point lead a minute and a half in. Chima Egeonu brought the Gophers within six by slamming down a dunk. Goucher tied the game at 53 with Harris free throws (13:00). Darnell Morris Jr. made one from deep to bring the Gophers within two (9:56). Moravian extended their lead to seven, following a made three, with just under eight minutes. Goucher responded going on an 8-2 scoring run (2:00). The Greyhounds went on a five-point run to close the game, securing the 84-73 win.
Fifer led the gophers with 23 points, going 9-14 from the field and 4-7 from three. Harris followed with 15 points, shooting 11-13 from the free throw line. Morris Jr. led with three assists and added 11 points and seven rebounds. Egeonu ended the night with a double-double, scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Gophers led the Greyhounds in field goal and free throw percentage. Goucher shot 45.8% from the field and 76.5% from the free-throw line, while Moravian shot 40.6% from the floor and 70.6% from the charity stripe. The Greyhounds led the Gophers from beyond the arc, going 16-39, while the Gophers went 6-18.
Goucher returns home on Saturday, February 14th at 2pm to face Juniata.
