Three Gophers Score Double Digits Against Riverhawks
BALTIMORE, MD- The Goucher College Gophers (5-19, 2-15 conference) hosted the Riverhawks of Susquehanna University (13-11 overall, 9-8 conference) on Wednesday night in their final home match of the 2025-26 season. The Gophers dropped the contest, 87-59.
The Riverhawks started off the night scoring the first bucket of the game, and shortly after, Darnell Morris Jr. snagged a steal and finished at the rim to give the Gophers their first points of the game. Susquehanna countered with back-to-back baskets to give them a five-point advantage (17:24), but Liech Kong countered with a 3-pointer to bring the Gophers within two points. Susquehanna went on a 14-8 tear, highlighted by four threes, but Morris Jr. ended their run by knocking down a three of his own. Over the course of four minutes, the offensive efforts of each team were even at eight points apiece, capped by a Morris Jr. 3-pointer. The Riverhawks closed out the half by scoring six unanswered points to give them a 14-point lead going into halftime.
Susquehanna opened up the second half by knocking down two free throws to add to their lead. Kong knocked down a 3-pointer 20 seconds later to bring the Gophers within 13. The teams continued to exchange buckets when Chima Egeonu added a basket (13:02). Jadyss Fifer stopped a 7-2 Susquehanna scoring run by slamming down a dunk (9:24). Susquehanna then proceeded to score three quick shots from deep that were broken up by free throws from Jack Murdaugh. For the last five minutes of the contest, the teams traded baskets, but seven threes in the second half gave the Riverhawks the offensive momentum needed to close out the game.
Fifer was the leading scorer for the Gophers with 18 points, going 8-18 from the field. Morris Jr. followed with 13, shooting 50% from deep. Egeonu led the team with eight rebounds while also adding ten points. Langston Davis led the team in assists, dishing out six.
The Riverhawks led the Gophers statistically. Susquehanna shot 42.5% from the field, went 13-32 from deep, and shot 80% from the charity stripe. Goucher went 37.1% from the floor, shot 7-24 from three, and 42.9% the free throw line.
The Gophers travel to Wilkes University for a 2pm tip-off on Saturday, Feb. 21, where they will compete in their last game of the season.
