BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers (1-1-1) traveled to local opponent, the Stevenson University Mustangs (1-2-0). Despite, the 1-0 score at halftime, the Mustangs utilized a strong offensive second half to defeat the Gophers 4-0.
The first 18 minutes of the contest was all Mustangs, with Stevenson recording a shot on net just under three minutes into the game, and five more within this time span. Andres Aristimuno notched back-to-back shot attempts for the Gophers following a foul committed by the Mustangs.
Stevenson finished their first goal with minutes left in the first half, after the Gophers offense had rallied with numerous shots on target. This left the Mustangs up 1-0 going into the half.
The second half was all Mustangs. The next two goals for Stevenson came just over two minutes apart from each other, giving Stevenson a 3-0 lead with 51:52 on the clock.
The final goal for Stevenson came six minutes later, marking the final goal for the 4-0 contest.
Senior, Ale Sternini recorded 63 minutes in net, with eight saves off of 12 shots on goal. First year, Ryan Dizayee, played in his first collegiate contest, seeing 27 minutes of action in net, with one save off the one shot he saw.
Drew Gentile, Eian Waples, and Aristimuno each led the team with two shots in the contest. The Mustangs outshot the Gophers 27-10, and earned more corner kicks (7-3).
The Gophers return to action at home against Hood College on Saturday, September 6th for a 6pm kickoff.
