BALTIMORE, MD - The No. 4 seed, Goucher College Gophers (9-7-3 overall; 5-4 conference) hosted the No. 5 seed, Drew University Rangers (11-5-2 overall; 4-4-1 conference) on Beldon Field for the first round of the Landmark Conference Playoffs. Goals from the Rangers at the start and finish of the match secured the 2-0 victory to move on to the semifinal round.
An early foul in the box against the Gophers awarded the Rangers a penalty kick, which they converted to grab a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest. Drew continued to pressure offensively, registering another shot on target shortly after. The teams traded chances throughout the opening half, with the Rangers maintaining the upper hand heading into the break.
Goucher looked to shift momentum early in the second half with a header attempt from Jonathan Adima. The Gophers continued to push forward, as back-to-back shots by Declan Ritchotte and Anthony Ketelsen forced saves from the Drew goalkeeper. However, the Rangers capitalized late, doubling their lead in the 89th minute. Alex Ruggles fired a final attempt on frame for Goucher, but the effort was turned away to seal the result.
The Rangers outshot the Gophers, 16-8, which included a 9-1 advantage in the first half. Goucher held the slight edge with six corner kicks, compared to the Rangers' five. Senior goalkeeper, Ale Sternini played all 90 minutes in net and earned six saves.
This match concludes the 2025 campaign for the Goucher College men's soccer team. The Gophers will return to action in 2026.
