BALTIMORE, Md. – Head Coach Eric Spangler has announced his 2019 fall schedule for the Goucher College men's tennis team. The four-time defending Landmark Conference champions will play two invitationals on the road, but will make their 2019-20 home debut in the spring when the Evelyn Dyke Schroedl '62 Tennis Center, which is currently under construction, could be ready for the spring season.
"Our fall season is all about competition – and will consist one invitational and one tournament, both with individual style formats, meaning lots of match play. Since the fall season is brief, these are valuable to prep us for the spring by letting the guys see a variety of competition in a short amount of time."
The Gophers will begin the second season of the Spangler era nearby at the 2019 Loyola Men's Tennis Invitational on September 20-22. Last year the event consisted of four Division I teams.
The squad will conclude the fall at the ITA Atlantic South Regional Tournament hosted by Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on October 6.
"In the final tournament of fall season, we get to see where we will match up against teams that we will play in the spring," said Spangler.
Goucher returns five of the six singles players including the 2019 conference Player of the Year and all-conference first-team selection Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) and all-second-team performer Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion). Dumas and Osmosean Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) were named to the all-conference second team for doubles. The Gophers will head into the spring looking to capture its fifth-straight conference tournament and berth in the NCAA Division III Championships.
