Swim Teams Pick Up Wins over Immaculata, Fall to Etown
TOWSON, Md. – The Goucher College swimming teams hosted a tri-meet facing Elizabethtown College and Immaculata University Friday evening at von Borries Aquatic Center
The Gopher women split the meet on the evening, defeating Immaculata 123-110. However, they fell to Elizabethtown 172-65. The men took down the Mighty Macs 109-73, and also lost to the Blue Jays 197-49.
The women opened the night with a third-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay consisting of Kan Jarvis, Ella Robinson, Kaitlyn Firth and Leia Zeligman. The team finished just two seconds behind the Immaculata team, with a final time of 2:06.25.
Firth secured the sole first place finish for the Goucher Women in the 200 Yard IM, finishing in 2:24.28. She also earned two second place finishes in the Women's 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:05.25, as well as in the Women's 100 Yard Freestyle coming in at 58.69. Robinson added a second-place finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, completing the race in 1:15.78.
Max McCoy added another podium finish to the Gophers on the night, placing second in the Women's 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.73. Avery McEachern fell just short of the podium, finishing a second behind McCoy and half a second behind the third-place finisher.
Olivia Reichardt, McCoy, McEachern and Robinson finished the night with a second-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, completing the replay in 1:51.46, falling less than three seconds behind the first-place finishers.
Joshua Contreras earned the only first place finish for the Gopher Men in the 100 Yard Butterfly. He earned a time of 57.75. Olivia Barnes also earned a third-place finish in the Men's 1000 Yard Freestyle, notching a time of 13:40.12.
Ben Graff won the 50 Yard Backstroke for the Gophers with a time of 28.08. Aiden Grimm placed third in the event, coming in two seconds behind his teammate, finishing at 30.16 seconds. Graff also earned a second-place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke, coming in at 1:00.64, and a third-place finish in the 50 Yard Butterfly finishing the race in 26.12.
Goucher returns to action Saturday, November 2, heading to Wilkes for a 1 pm dual meet.
