Swim Teams Take on Wilkes, LVC Saturday, Women Top Colonels
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Goucher College men's and women's swim teams competed against Wilkes University and Lebanon Valley College at the Catholic Youth Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Gopher women split on the afternoon, topping Wilkes 140-66 but falling to the Dutchmen 120.5-106.5. The men fell to the Colonels 133-65 and to LVC 146-69.
Goucher's women pick up six first place finishes on the day, opening the day with a win in the 200 medley relay. The Gophers swam a time of 2:00.01 with a relay consisting of Kaitlyn Firth, Ella Robinson, Avery McEachern and Max McCoy.
Firth posted three individual wins on the afternoon, taking first place in the 200 backstroke (2:30.58), the 500 freestyle (5:51.79) and the 200 IM (2:26.46).
Robinson earned wins in the 50 yard breaststroke (34.67) and the 200 breaststroke (2:44.22).
McCoy was second in the 100 freestyle (59.12).
For the men, Ben Graff and Aiden Grimm finished 1-2 in the 200 backstroke, with Graff winning in a time of 2:17.57. Grimm posted a 2:26.21 effort.
Grimm placed second in the 50 backstroke, registering a time of 29.40 seconds. Graff finished second in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 2:20.54.
James Piland took second in a pair of events, finishing second in the 50 breaststroke (31.72) and the 200 breastroke (2:44.28).
Saturday's meet closed out the first semester for the Gophers. Goucher is back in action January 11 at Susquehanna against the River Hawks and Moravian.
