Women's Lacrosse Struggles in Season Opener
The Goucher College women’s lacrosse team opened the 2017 season with a 21-4 loss to Frostburg State on the road Saturday afternoon.
FROSTBURG, MD – The Goucher College women's lacrosse team opened the 2017 season with a 21-4 loss to Frostburg State on the road Saturday afternoon.
First year midfielders Alyssa Long (Pennsburg, PA) and Allie Clay (Baltimore, MD) were the first to score for the Gophers in the opening half. Long completed the game with two goals while Clay and Junior Rachel Grosso (Haworth, NJ) added a goal each to the Gopher effort.
Senior Claire Lippay (Jenkintown, PA) and sophomore Lauren Pirrung (New Windsor, MD) chipped in with an assist each. Lippay also led the team with five ground balls and three caused turnovers in the game.
Frostburg State was led on offense by Logan Brady with six goals. Nikki Hallikas came off the bench to supply the team with seven assists.
Dylan Teitelbaum started in the goal for the Bobcats and chalked up four saves over 30 minutes of play. Abigail McClure supplemented time in goal for the Bobcats and was unable to register a save.
How It Happened:
- Frostburg rattled off four-straight goals to start the game before the Gophers netted back-to-back goals to bring the game to 4-2.
- However, eight goals in a row for the Bobcats gave them the decisive advantage heading into the locker room at half time.
- Frostburg added one more goal before Grosso interrupted the run with a goal for the Gophers.
- The Bobcats added another 7-0 run before Long ended it with her second goal on the day.
- Frostburg scored one more goal to finish the game on top, 21-4.
