TOWSON, Md. – Goucher College women's lacrosse head coach Cat Thoreson has announced her 2019 schedule. The 16-game slate is highlighted by 10 home games, eight new teams that were added to the schedule including four programs that the Gophers will square off against for the first time in program history.
The Gophers will open the season at home against Neumann on February 16. It will mark the second-straight season the two teams will open the season against each other and the first time Goucher has opened the season at home since 2015.
The squad will then hit the road for the first time in 2019 with games against Cedar Crest on February 23 and Immaculata on February 27. It will be the first-ever meeting against both teams.
Goucher starts the month of March by returning home for a two-game set against Randolph on March 2 and Notre Dame on March 6. Both teams return to the schedule for the first time since 2016 when the Gophers defeated both teams that season.
A road trip for a first-ever meeting against Southern Virginia on March 9 breaks up a stretch of four of five matches at home. After the trip to Virginia, the Gophers welcome Bryn Mawr on March 14 and Gwynedd Mercy on March 16. The Towson program has a 1-0 record against Bryn Mawr in a meeting prior to the turn of the century while Gwynedd Mercy returns to the slate for the second-straight season.
Wesley, who was the Gophers season-opening home opponent in 2015, returns to the schedule for the first time since Goucher earned a 13-2 win in that contest. The Gophers will travel to Wesley on March 20.
The team returns home to open Landmark Conference play against Moravian on March 23 and then will battle Bethany in Towson the next day (March 24) in the first match between the two teams.
After the game against Bethany, Goucher will play its final six contests against league opponents. The squad will face its first league road test at Elizabethtown on March 30 before returning home to host Scranton (April 6) and Catholic (April 10). The Gophers will travel to Susquehanna (April 13) and Drew (April 27) with the team's final home game sandwiched in between on April 19.
The top four teams in the standings advance to the Landmark Conference Tournament with the semifinals on May 1 and the championship game on May 4.
