Multiple Gophers Score to Earn the Victory Against Bryn Mawr
BRYN MAWR, PA - The Goucher College Gophers (5-7 overall, 1-3 conference) traveled to face the Bryn Mawr Owls (2-7 overall, 0-0 conference). A strong performance for the Gophers led them to a 21-3 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Gophers started the game off strong by scoring the first goal of the game 30 seconds in from Tatiana Emeruwa. Amaya Locke scored a man-down goal three minutes later to give the Gophers an early 2-0 lead. After Gaby Cruz Santiago caused a turnover and scooped up a ground ball, leading to another man-down goal from Emma Nelson (9:56). Just over a minute later, Locke found the back of the net, leading the Gophers to score four straight goals. Wrenn Harney caused a turnover and grabbed the ground ball to lead to a Nelson goal (6:35). With 3:47 left in the quarter, Camden West found the back of the net to give the Gophers a 6-0 lead to end the first quarter.
Less than 30 seconds into the second quarter, Nelson found the back of the net, off a pass from Harney, for her third of the game. West added another goal just over a minute later from a free position attempt. Just under four minutes into the quarter, Kennedy Harper recorded her first save of the game. Angelena Holmes won the ball back for the Gophers after causing a turnover, allowing Dayana Flores Bermudez to find the back of the net (9:50). The Gophers continued to pour on the offense with another goal less than a minute later, this time from Imani Ward, giving the Gophers a 10-0 lead. Bryn Mawr countered three minutes later by scoring back-to-back goals less than a minute apart. At the 1:15 mark, Katie Bloom scored a man-up goal to give the Gophers an 11-2 advantage going into halftime.
At the start of the third quarter, Huda Chaudhry entered as in goal for Goucher. The Gophers scored back-to-back goals with the first from Bloom, assisted by Harney, and West recording the second (10:33). The Gophers' offensive momentum pushed them through the rest of the quarter. Harney added a goal, off a pass from West, who was then able to get another one past Bryn Mawr at the 5:53 mark. Emeruwa capped the quarter scoring with 1:49 left on the clock.
Alana Thaler entered in goal to start the final quarter. Bryn Mawr scored 12 seconds in, but Goucher countered with a Locke goal, assisted by Emeruwa (12:08). Just under two minutes later, Locke scored her fourth goal of the game off a man-up opportunity. First-year, Dakhai Handy added her first of the game with 8:35 left in the fourth quarter. West scored the 20th goal of the game for the Gophers at the 4:04 mark. The final goal of the game was scored by Handy at the 1:08 mark, giving the Gophers a 21-3 win.
West led the Gophers with a total of six points, off five goals and one assist. Following close behind, Locke and Harney each tallied four points. On the defensive end, Holmes led the team with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Harper added 30 minutes in the net, recording one save off three shots. Chaudhry and Thaler each added 15 minutes in goal. Chaudhry saved the one shot she saw, and Thaler saved two out of three shots.
The Gophers return to action on Wednesday, April 8th at Beldon Field against Lycoming for a 7pm match-up.
