West Notches 100th Career Point Against Greyhounds
BETHLEHEM, PA - The Goucher College Gophers (6-9 overall, 2-5 conference) traveled to face the Greyhounds of Moravian University (10-5 overall, 5-2 conference) on Wednesday night. A dominant performance from the Greyhounds led them to the 21-4 win.
The Greyhounds opened up the game with strong offense, scoring back-to-back goals 15 seconds apart. Moravian then scored less than a minute later after a good clear attempt. Moravian kept the offensive momentum up with another goal at the 10:41 mark. The Greyhounds earned a free position attempt after a won draw, but Kennedy Harper was able to secure that save. Four minutes later, Harper added another save off another free position attempt. Moravian was able to find the back of the net at the 3:24 mark. To close the quarter, Moravian scored its sixth unanswered goal.
Moravian carried their offensive prowess into the second, scoring a man-up goal two minutes in. The Greyhounds continued to pour on offense, scoring two goals in two minutes. Defender Maura Poulton caused a turnover, scooping up a ground ball, but the Gophers couldn't convert, leading to another Moravian goal (6:10). Camden West got a shot off but couldn't sneak past Moravian. After a good clear attempt, Moravian found the back of the net, giving them an 11-0 lead. The Greyhounds quickly got back on offense, scoring at the 2:38 mark. To end the first half, Moravian converted on a man-up opportunity, giving them a 13-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the first 40 seconds of the second half, the Greyhounds capitalized on a man-up opportunity and found the back of the net. After a Moravian turnover, the Gophers scored their first goal of the game. Tatiana Emeruwa scored off a pass from Wrenn Harney (9:02). The Gophers then won the draw, but a turnover gave the possession to Moravian, which they capitalized on to give them their 15th goal (7:26). The Greyhounds added two goals a minute apart, off the man-advantage. West fired back, scoring a goal off a pass from Harney after a won draw by first-year Dakhai Handy (2:31). The Greyhounds ended the scoring of the third in the last minute to give them the 18-2 lead heading into the final quarter.
West scored one early in the quarter, assisted by Harney after a Moravian turnover (14:01). The Greyhounds countered quickly with a won draw and goal (12:49). Poulton caused a turnover for the Gophers and helped secure a good clear attempt, but Moravian then caused a turnover to lead to a goal (6:48). The Greyhounds converted another goal two minutes later to give them their 21st of the game. Harney scored in the final two minutes off a free position attempt (1:15) to bring the final score to 21-4.
Harney led the Gophers with four points, this came from three assists and one goal. West scored two goals, with her first in the game, she earned her 100th career point. Poulton led the defensive end with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Harper added 60 minutes in net with seven saves on 28 shots.
Moravian outshot the Gophers 36-13 and went 1-4 on free position attempts, while the Gophers went 1-2. The Greyhound scooped up 23 ground balls compared to the Gophers 12. Both teams went nearly perfect with clears. Moravian went 19-20, and Goucher went 13-14.
The Gophers return to action at home against Elizabethtown College on Saturday, April 18th for a 1pm match-up. The Goucher Women's Lacrosse team will be celebrating their seniors prior to game time.
