Colonels Edge Out Gophers in Close Meet
BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College women's swim team hosted Landmark Conference opponent Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon, narrowly falling 85-70 in a tightly contested dual meet that came down to the final events.
The Gophers opened the day with an early boost, securing maximum points in the 400 Yard Medley Relay after Wilkes was disqualified. The relay squad of Harper Sutton, Alana Moore, Kan Jarvis, and Shailine Culioli officially took first with a time of 5:50.38.
Jarvis carried that momentum into the individual events with a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:15.36). Teammates Moore and Sutton added key points for Goucher by placing fourth and fifth. Jarvis later claimed another victory in the 200 Yard Butterfly, winning by a two-second margin.
Firth delivered a standout performance for Goucher, tallying two individual wins in the 400 Yard IM (5:18.28) and 500 Yard Freestyle (6:00.58). She added a second-place finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:55.89), while Moore followed in third with a time of 3:12.83.
Darian Ludlow earned a podium finish for Goucher with her time of 37.09 in the 50 Yard Freestyle. She was followed by teammate Culioli, who finished fourth with her time of 44.57. Ludlow later earned second in the 100 Yard Freestyle (1:27.20).
The 200 Yard Backstroke marked another second-place podium finish for the Gophers after Sutton beat the following swimmer by 11 seconds (3:19.91).
Goucher returns to action on Saturday, January 17, hosting Moravian in the von Borries Aquatic Center for Senior Day. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
