Goucher Women's Tennis Closes Out The Fall With 6-3 Win Against York

BALTIMORE, Md. – Mandile Mpofu (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) finished her collegiate career by going 7-0 in singles in the fall to help Goucher College defeat York College of Pennsylvania 6-3 in non-conference women's tennis action on Saturday.

Mpofu and Anais Gill (Cambridge, England/Hill Form Fifth College) won their final doubles match together at No. 1 doubles 8-2 and then Mpofu took down her opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2 to give up only four games this weekend 23 games in 14 single sets in the fall.

For Senior Day, it was only fitting that Mpofu was the clinching match. In her final collegiate day of competition, her straight-set win was the fourth team win and the clinching match went to Gill with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 victory at No. 1 singles.

Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) and Ali Gorson-Morrow (Broomall, Pa./Barrack Hebrew School) at No. 2 doubles and Katie Marzerka (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional) and Kyoko Kinoshita (Tokyo, Japan/Tilton School [N.H.]) at No. 3 doubles both won by the identical score of 8-3 to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead.

Kinoshita won her No. 5 singles match 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 to help the team seal a 6-3 win.

McCaffrey lost her first match of her collegiate career 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 to finish the fall slate 6-1 in singles. Marzerka also took her contest to three sets at No. 4 singles  5-7, 6-1, 10-4 while Gorson-Morrow fell 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
