Currier, Zidanic Among Top Five Finishers in 3,000 Meters
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — A school record that had stood for nearly three years was shattered today when Goucher's Destiny Phillips (Washington, D.C./Dunbar) turned in an effort of 16'7.75" to place first in the long jump competition at Susquehanna's Orange & Maroon Classic.
Of the 22 entrants in the event, only Phillips and Susquehanna's Kristin Stam surpassed 16' and Stam went out at 16'3". The former school record in the long jump of 16'4.75" was set by Dana Macaluso in February 2008.
Goucher's Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) placed in the top 5 in two individual events: third in the mile (5:54.67) and fifth in the 3,000 meters (11:55.45). Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) finished two spots ahead of Zidanic in third place in the 3K with her time of 11:22.04, which represents the second-fastest in that event in the history of the school's women's indoor track and field program.
Goucher's entry consisting of Kelsey Turner (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends), Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel), Rachel Ward (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal) completed the 4 x 200-meter relay in 1:56.06, good for second place behind Franklin & Marshall. In the distance medley relay, the foursome of Taylor Burr (Addison, Maine/Maranacook Community), Caitlin Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland), Gwendolyn Moiles (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) and Currier placed fourth overall with a time of 13:55.19.
