Gophers Place Second Behind Hood in Team Scoring
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Goucher produced the champion in the high jump competition and the first-place entry in the distance medley relay at today's Hagerstown Invitational. The Gophers also scored 115 points to finish in second place behind Hood (211 points) in the team scoring.
Destiny Phillips (Washington, D.C./Dunbar) took first place in the high jump with an effort of 4'7.75".
In the distance medley relay, the foursome of Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York), Nathalie Hall (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross), Zoe Malkin (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) and Gwendolyn Moiles (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) turned in a combined time of 13:44.59.
Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) was runner-up in the 400-meter run with her time of 1:04.85 and Goucher runners finished 2-3 in both the 300 meters and the mile. In the 300, Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal) was second (:44.92) and Phillips was third (:44.99); in the mile, Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) placed second (5:38.43) and Taylor Burr (Addison, Maine/Maranacook Community) followed in third (5:46.91).
The Gophers entered a pair of foursomes in the 4 x 400-meter relay. The one unit consisting of Kellon, Kenzie Weber (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George), Kelsey Turner (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) and Reifsnyder completed the event in 4:24.38, good for second place, and the other, which was made up of Currier, Kathryn Walker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh), Malkin and Moiles, took third place (4:41.42).
