Gophers Fall on the Road to Colonels

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Host Wilkes University posted a 3-0 Landmark Conference women's volleyball victory over Goucher College Friday evening at the Marts Center. Set scores were 25-23, 25-16, 25-21.
- Goucher (1-20, 0-8 Landmark) took an 11-9 lead on a Maria Basantes service ace.
- Wilkes (5-20, 1-7) used a 7-2 run to take a 16-13 lead.
- The Gophers reeled off four straight points to grab a 22-21 lead on a block by Imani Ward and Dakota Hawkins and extended the lead to 23-21 on a Wilkes attack error.
- The Colonels responded with four straight points to close out the set.
- Wilkes scored the first four points of the set and later took a 10-4 lead.
- After a Liv DeBiasio kill, the Colonels scored the next four points to go up 14-5.
- Goucher used three straight points late to get back within 22-15 before the hosts closed out the set to make it 2-0.
- The Gophers took a 10-7 lead on a kill by Alex Dzhygit.
- Goucher led 19-16 when six straight Wilkes points put the Colonels in front 22-19.
- A Wilkes service ace closed out the match.
- Ward, Dzhygit and DeBiasio each had five kills to pace the Gophers.
- Athena Savick racked up 15 digs, with Madi Kraemer contributing eight.
- Savick also had three service aces, with Basantes and Vivian Huddleston adding two apiece.
- Huddleston registered 10 assists.
- Hawkins finished with one solo block and two block assists.
- Goucher wraps up Landmark Conference play Saturday, heading to Moravian for a 2 pm match.
