WINCHESTER, Va. - The Goucher College women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2024 season with a 3-0 loss to Shenandoah University at the Wilkins Athletics and Events Center Saturday morning. Set scores were 25-12, 25-14, 25-20.
- Goucher (1-22) led 3-2 early following a block by Maria Basantes and Alex Dzhygit.
- With the set tied 6-6, Shenandoah (13-14) scored 10 straight points to build a 16-6 lead.
- An Emma Taylor kill stopped the Hornet run.
- The Gophers jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the set, with Basantes, Dzhygit and Imani Ward recording kills early.
- Down 9-5, the Hornets scored eight straight points to go up 13-9.
- After a Basantes kill, SU scored four more times to build a 17-10 lead.
- Four straight points capped by a block by Dzhygit and Dakota Hawkins put Goucher in front 7-5.
- With the set tied 14-14, Shenandoah scored five straight points to go up 19-14.
- The Gophers climbed back within 22-20 before the Hornets scored the final three points of the match.
- Four players, Dzhygit, Ward, Basantes and Liv DeBiasio all recorded four kills.
- Basantes and Athena Savick paced the Gophers with seven digs each.
- Hawkins finished with three block assists.
