Ursinus Takes Down Goucher In 3 Sets

COLLEGEVILLE, PA.- Goucher traveled to Ursinus College for a tri-match, falling in three sets to the Grizzly Bears in their second game of the day.
The Gophers had a close first set, scoring the first two points of the game. Ursinus began with an attacking error that set up a kill by Juliana Stoneberg. Shortly after losing control of the ball, the Gophers responded with consecutive kills from Stoneberg and Lucille Hendricks. However, Ursinus then went on a seven-point scoring run, taking the lead. Sofia Ortiz assisted Stoneberg in a successful spike for the Gophers. Three more points are added to the Gopher tally off the Grizzly Bear's errors. Three kills from Stoneberg, Imani Ward, and Liv DeBiasio help the Gophers chip away at the Ursinus lead. A service error from the Grizzly Bears gives Goucher the chance to add three more points to the scoreboard. Ursinus closes out the set winning 25-23.
Both teams have an early back-and-forth, resulting in a tied score of 2-2. Ursinus takes a quick 6-2 early into the second set. Goucher adds a few points to their tally with an error from the Grizzly Bears that led to two service aces by Athena Savick. Usinus keeps maintaining their lead, but Kelsi Hockaday responds with a kill off Otiz's assist. DeBiasio has a successful spike before the Grizzly Bears take back control of the ball. A kill from Stoneberg and an error from Ursinus have the Gophers pushing back near the end of the half. Ultimately, Ursinus takes the set 25-13.
Ortiz starts the Gophers strong with a service ace to start the set. Hendricks makes a successful kill early in the set to even the score 3-3. A few errors by the Grizzly Bears add to the Gopher tally. Ursinus has a three-point streak stopped by a kill from Hendricks with an assist from Alex Jordan. Grizzly Bears have a 10-point streak that gives them a dominant lead. Gophers fight back with a four-point streak at the end of the set. DeBiasio has a final spike for Goucher before Ursinus takes the set 25-14.
Stoneberg led the Gophers in kills with seven. She was followed closely by Hendricks and DeBiasio with five each of the Gophers' 21 total. Ortiz was the leader in assists with 10, followed by Jordan with six. Goucher had 30 digs with Ortiz as the leader.
The Gophers will compete at Gallaudet on Wednesday, September 24th. The contest will be held at 7pm.
