Bison Sweep The Gophers In 3 Sets

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Goucher Gophers make their way to Washington, D.C., to compete against the Gallaudet University Bison. Throughout the game, the Bison maintain a dominant lead, sweeping the Gophers in three sets.
Juliana Stoneberg started the first set with a spike off a set from Sofia Ortiz for the Gophers. The Gallaudet Bison took an early lead with a 12-point scoring run. Ortiz fights back with a kill, adding to the Goucher Gophers' scoreboard. The Bison quickly take back control of the game before giving the Gophers a point off a service error. Goucher gains a few more points off of Gallaudet's errors, but Gallaudet takes the set 25-7.
The set begins with a few points for the Bison. Alex Dzhygit has two successful kills for Goucher early in the second set. Gallaudet takes an early lead, 11-3. Goucher gains two more points from the Bison's service errors. The Bison maintain their lead through the set, taking the set 25-5.
Bison take two points to start before losing control from an attacking error. Dzhygit scores for Goucher off a set from Alex Jordan. Gophers keep swinging, leading to a spike from Maria Basantes. Gophers gain traction with a service ace from Ortiz, followed by two kills from Stoneberg and Liv DeBiasio, shortening the Bison lead 10-7. Six more points are scored by the Bison before Stoneberg spikes again, adding a point to the Gopher tally. The Bison have a strong hold on the lead, but Basantes fights back with a kill. Nearing the end of the set, Athena Savick has a service ace before the Bison end up taking the set 25-13.
Stoneberg was the Gopher leader in kills with four for the day. Madi Kraemer had nine digs of Goucher's 32, followed closely by Savick with eight. Ortiz and Jordan tied for leading in assists with five each.
The Gophers' next contest will be at home in a tri-match against McDaniel and Trinity Washington. The games will be hosted on September 27 at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
