Gophers Fall in Final Conference Game

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA.- The Goucher Gophers (10-18, 1-8 Landmark) headed on the road for their last two matches of the season. The tri-match featured the first game of the day against the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College (15-14, 3-6 Landmark).
The first two points in the set are scored by the Gophers with kills from Alex Dzhygit. Both teams go back-and-forth with kills from Lucille Hendricks and a service ace from Alex Jordan, keeping the Gophers competitive. Blue Jays begin to inch ahead, but spikes from Liv DeBiasio and a service ace from Sofia Ortiz keep the Gophers alive. The Gophers keep swinging with Hendricks and Dzhygit adding four more points to the Gopher tally. Elizabethtown picks up speed in the latter half of the set, taking the set 25-16.
DeBiasio and Dzhygit score first for the Gophers. Blue Jays go on a five-point run before being stopped by a kill from Athena Savick and Hendricks. The Gophers work out of system with Madi Kraemer setting up Alex Jordan. Elizabethtown maintains its lead through the set, but AaShyah De Vries and DeBiasio add a few more points to the Gopher scoreboard before Blue Jays take the set 25-13.
Goucher starts scoring early with kills from DeBiasio, Hendricks, and a service ace from Savick. Lucy Ingraham subs in serving a service ace. Goucher keeps swinging with DeBiasio and Hendricks having successful kills. Blue Jays push ahead but Goucher gains points from Kanay Parham and Kelsi Hockaday. Elizabethtown keeps their momentum winning the set 25-18.
Hendricks was the Gophers leader in kills with 10 followed by DeBiasio with six. Ortiz led in assists with 11 followed closely by Jordan with nine.
The Gophers will play again today in the second game of their tri-match against DeSales.
