Gophers Close Season Against Colonels
WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Goucher College Gophers (5-20 overall, 1-16 conference) closed out the regular season on the road against the Colonels of Wilkes University (16-9 overall, 11-7 conference). Despite a strong second half, the Gophers fell, 89-65.
The Colonels took an early lead, scoring seven unanswered points in the first three minutes of the game. Out of a Goucher timeout, Jadyss Fifer put the Gophers on the board with a layup. Within the next 30 seconds, Darnell Morris Jr. knocked down a three to bring the Gophers within two points (16:43). For the next three minutes, Wilkes went on a six-point stretch, before Fifer hit a shot from deep to stop the Colonels' run. Wilkes countered with an 8-0 scoring run, highlighted by a dunk (11:30), when Jack Murdaugh responded by hitting a shot from deep. The Colonels went on a 9-2 run that was halted by Morris Jr. back-to-back buckets (5:34). The teams continued to trade baskets to close out the first half with Wilkes scoring in the last ten to give them a 45-26 lead going into halftime.
To start the seconds half, Wilkes came out scoring seven straight to add to their lead (18:31). Avree Harris added the first points of the half seconds later. The teams exchanged bucket for the next five minutes when Julian Sabbat scored a bucket following a block from Chima Egeonu. After a stretch of even play, Lucas Allen finsihed a three-point play, with a basket, and the and-on free throw (8:38). Over the course of four minutes, the offensive efforts of each team were even at eight points apiece, capped by a Fifer dunk. In the final two minutes of the competition, Jon Perry added a bucket for the Gophers. Despite the second half surge, the Gophers fell 89-65.
Morris Jr. led the Gophers with 20 points and four assists, shooting 8-15 from the floor. Egeonu led the team with six rebounds while adding ten points, going 4-5 from the charity stripe.
Wilkes led Goucher statically. The Colonels shot 47.1% from the floor, went 7-20 from three and shot 76.2% from the free throw line. The Gophers shot 41.1% from the field, went 5-24 from deep and shot 70% from the charity stripe.
This concludes the 2025-26 for the Goucher men's basketball team. They return to action late 2026.
