GLENSIDE, PA.- Goucher traveled to Pennsylvania to compete against the Arcadia University Knights. The Gophers fell in three sets on their road game.
In the first set, Arcadia takes the first six points, taking a fast lead. After an attacking error by the Knights, Goucher takes control back. A kill by Lucille Hendricks and a service ace by Maya Miller allow Goucher to put four points on the board, lessening Arcadia's lead. Liv DeBiasio fights the Knights' lead with two kills during the set. A few errors by the Knights add to the Gopher tally. Arcadia goes on a five-point scoring run to finish out, winning the set 25-12.
Goucher puts early points on the board with spikes from Hendricks and DeBiasio. Makayla Nasibi's service ace keeps Goucher in the game, only two points behind Arcadia, 6-4. The Knights maintain their lead with AaShyah De Vries and DeBiasio responding with a block that gains the Gophers control of the ball. Miller comes in to serve, earning a service ace, adding to the Gopher scoreboard. Arcadia goes on an eight-point scoring run, extending the team's lead. First year, Kanay Parham has a successful kill for the Gophers. Arcadia takes the set 25-16.
Early into the third set, DeBiasio slams a kill for the Gophers, halting a potential scoring streak for the Knights. The Gophers use the momentum of a service error by Arcadia to score with a kill from Hendricks. Another Knight's error keeps the control in Goucher's hands, which leads to a service ace by Athena Savick. Arcadia scores the next seven points before the Gophers add two more points to their total. DeBiasio has a service ace at the final points of the set. Ultimately, the Gophers fall to the Knights 25-12 in the third set.
For the Gophers, Hendricks and DeBiasio led in kills, tying with four each. Alex Jordan was the leader in assists for the night with three. Savick led in digs for Goucher with 10 of the 37.
The Gophers return to action on Saturday, September 20th. They will compete in a tri-match against Ursinus and Cedar Crest. The match will be hosted at Ursinus.
