Gophers Close Season Against DeSales
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA.- The Goucher Gophers (10-19, 1-8 Landmark) wrapped up their season in their second match of the day, taking on the DeSales University Bulldogs (16-12, 4-2 MAC Freedom).
Kanay Parham put Goucher on the board first with a kill off a set from Alex Jordan. However, DeSales responded with a six-point run to take a 7-1 lead. Parham and Alex Dzhygit each added kills for the Gophers, but the Bulldogs extended their advantage to 15-5. Goucher gained a few points off Bulldog errors and a kill from Liv DeBiasio before DeSales closed out the opening set, 25-13.
In the second set, Goucher came out strong, scoring the first four points behind a kill from DeBiasio and a service ace from Sofia Ortiz. The Bulldogs rallied to go up 10-6 before Lucille Hendricks connected on a kill from Jordan. The Gophers continued to battle with kills from DeBiasio and Dzhygit, but DeSales maintained control and took the set, 25-17.
DeSales opened the third set with five straight points, but a spike from AaShyah De Vries shifted the momentum for Goucher. DeBiasio and Dzhygit followed with kills, and a strong swing from Kelsi Hockaday helped the Gophers trim the deficit to 13-10. Despite their effort, the Bulldogs pulled away late and secured the set, 25-15, to win the match.
DeBiasio led the Gophers in kills, followed by Dzhygit with five. Ortiz paced the team with 11 assists, while Hendricks led the defense with 13 digs, closely followed by Athena Savick with 12.
This match marked the end of Goucher's 2025 season — a year highlighted by notable progress. The Gophers recorded their most conference set wins since the 2010–11 season and achieved their highest win total (10) since 2019. In her second season at the helm, head coach Kate Lindholm earned her first Landmark Conference victory.
The Gophers will return to action next fall!
