Goucher Cruises to Straight-Set Win

BALTIMORE, MD.- Goucher hosted the Tigers of Trinity Washington University for the second game of their tri-match. Goucher keeps the momentum to take the game 3-0.
Gophers get early points with a kill from Lucille Hendricks. A few errors from Goucher help Trinity tie the score 5-5. An attack error gives Goucher back control, leading to three service aces by Madi Kraemer. Both teams go back and forth, but Hendricks swings for two kills, adding to the Gopher tally. Goucher picks up speed with a service ace from Kelsi Hockaday and kills from Hockaday and Maria Basantes 17-11. Trinity puts up a fight with a six-point run, leading to a Goucher timeout 17-17. Goucher turns it around out of the timeout, two kills from Kanay Parham. Goucher scores the next eight points to shut out the set with a kill from Alex Dzhygit and a service ace from Alex Jordan. The Gophers will take the set 25-18.
Goucher scores the first dour points of the set with kills from Liv DeBiasio, Hockaday, and Sofia Ortiz. Gophers get the ball back from a Tiger error, leading to a service ace from Hockaday. Goucher takes early control with another kill from Hendricks and a service ace from Lucy Ingraham. 10-5. Tigers pursue the Gopher lead with a mini scoring run. Imani Ward slams a spike for Goucher 14-10. Gophers continue to fend off the Tigers with a kill from Dzhygit. A service error by the Tigers ends the set in 25-21 for Goucher.
Goucher begins the set swinging with two kills from DeBiasio. Ortiz adds to the Gopher scoreboard with a service ace. Gophers take the lead with a spike from Parham and a service ace from Juliana Stoneberg, 9-3. Stoneberg strikes again with a kill, followed by a service ace from Hendricks, pushing the Gopher lead. Ortiz assists AaShyah De Vries with another kill. De Vries keeps the momentum with a solo block against the Tigers. Ward has back-to-back spikes, keeping Goucher's lead 20-10. Goucher closes the set with De Vries and Jordan teaming up to block the Tigers' final attempt. The Gophers take the set 25-13.
Hendricks and DeBiasio tie for leading in kills with seven each. Athena Savick led in digs with 12 of the Gophers' 41. Ortiz led in assists, followed closely by Jordan. Goucher had 11 service aces, with Kraemer leading with three.
Goucher will be traveling to Washington College (Md.) on October 1st. The game will be played at 7 pm.
