Cardinals Take Down Gophers in Conference Matchup

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University Cardinals (5-8 Overall; 3-2 Conference) hold the Goucher College Gophers (7-6 Overall; 1-4 Conference) to just four goals in the 18-4 Landmark Conference matchup Wednesday evening.

• Catholic added three goals within the first five minutes of the contest to give them an early lead.
• After a five minute scoreless drought in the game, Jacob Morgan scored the first goal for the Gophers (6:08).
• Two and a half minutes later Jack Murdaugh added another to the board for Goucher with an assist from Morgan.
• The Cardinals added two more to end the quarter, giving them a 5-2 lead.

• Catholic began the scoring just under five minutes in.
• The only other goals in the quarter came from Catholic at the 7:46 and 5:16 mark.

• Catholic opened the second half with four goals in the first five minutes.
• Shortly after they add two more foals to extend their lead.
• With 5:23 on the clock, Sean Nolan pulls a shot from beyond midfield, catching the Catholic goalkeeper out of net to end Gouchers goal drought.
• The Cardinals add two final goals to end the quarter. 

• Catholic added two more goals in the final quarter.
• Morgan scored the final goal of the contest with 23 seconds left on the clock.

• The Cardinals outshot the Gophers 54-28, and won 23-25 faceoffs.
• Goucher went 18-24 from clears, while Catholic went 20-22.
• Morgan led the team with three points in the contest. 
• David Vucci went 2-20 from the faceoff, while Jack Schiavone went 0-5.
• Two Gophers led in caused turnovers, with DJ Barnes and Nick Pusey each recording three, Pusey also led the team with four ground balls.
• Jack Smith added 33:05 in the net for the Gophers, collecting six saves before Josh Steinmiller finished out the 26:55 of the game and also added six saves.

• The Gophers remain on the road to face Juniata at 1pm on Saturday, April 12th.
• They return home to take on Susquehanna on Wednesday, April 16th at 4pm.
