Second Quarter Clinches Win For River Hawks Over Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College Gophers (8-7 Overall; 2-5 Conference) hosted the Susquehanna University River Hawks (12-4 Overall; 5-3 Conference) in a Landmark Conference matchup with playoff implications. Despite an even start, the River Hawks dominant second quarter gave them the 17-8 win over the Gophers.
- Gianni Karam began the scoring of the event just a minute and a half into the contest.
- Susquehanna responded with three goals over the next six minutes.
- At 6:18 on the clock, Karam nets his second of the game off an assist from Scott Tayman.
- Senior Tyler May finishes his first of the contest just over a minute later off a pass from Jacob Morgan.
- The River Hawks, Ciccarello puts the final goal in the net just 20 seconds later to give Susquehanna the lead going into the second.
- Similar to the first quarter, the Gophers kicked off the scoring with Karam and Milan Temple teaming up to tie the game (14:08).
- The River Hawks proceed to score eight straight, capitalizing on two man-up opporuntities to give them the 12-4 lead at the half.
- Susquehanna scored the first three goals of the quarter within the first six and a half minutes.
- The game then remained scoreless for the next eight minutes, until May breaks the drought with 21 seconds remaining in the quarter.
- The River Hawks added two goals within five minutes of the final quarter, extending their lead to 12.
- Karam adds another to the scoreboard for the Gophers off a pass from James Dean (5:39).
- The final two goals came within the last 30 seonds, with Tayman putting one in the net off an asisst from Morgan (0:27), and then Morgan finishing the last shot himself (0:04).
- Karam led the team with four points in the contest, closely followed by Morgan with three.
- Susquehanna outshot Goucher 48-35, and also collected more ground balls (39-30).
- Jack Smith added 10 saves in his 45 minutes in net, while Josh Steinmiller saved two in his 15 minutes.
- Goucher went 11-29 on faceoff opportunities, David Vucci went 11-24, Jack Schiavone went 0-2, Caleb Scott went 0-1, and Nick Pusey went 0-2.
- Pusey and Schiavone each led the teeam with six gound balls. While Cole Smith led with two caused turnovers.
- The Gophers host Drew in their final game home game of the season on April 19th at 1pm.
